Coloring gray hair
Sooner or later, at some stage of our life we will all get gray hair. And we can do nothing to prevent it, as this is already in our genes. However, we, certainly, can take up measures so as to either tone down or blend it or even cover it up. And while working on it, it should be kept in mind that gray hairs are more resistant to colors and may react differently.
Many of us get disappointed and discouraged, when we first spot a white or gray hair as it singles out the fact that we are aging. Some people consider coloring it so as to hide them and to save themselves from embarrassment but some accept their natural color. If you are considering hiding them, then you can either go for Professional treatment of gray hair or self treatment of gray hair at home.
Grey hairs especially those that are coarse, prematurely grey hairs around the temple and hair lines are stubborn and resistant to hair colors. They grow coarser than the normal hair as it lacks pigment and has a different texture. And also they tend to wear off the hair color quicker and faster.
Here are some steps listed on how to color grey hair:
1) Since gray hair are resistant and require more time to absorb the color, apply the color to them first.
2) Gray hair usually require up to 45 minutes to absorb the color, so leave the color for a longer period.
3) Some hair stylists consider softening the gray hair first, so that, they can absorb the hair color more quickly. This can be done by using a 20% peroxide solution, apply it on the area where you have gray hair in excess and gently comb it. Keep it on for 10 minutes and rinse it off.
4) Consider increasing the level of your color, if your grey hair still shows itself.
5) Always go for the natural look while you consider coloring your grey hair, as they tend to wear off the color pretty fast.
For those whose hair is more than 50% grey, a permanent process would be best suited. But do not go for darker shades unless your hair is prematurely grey or coarse. The best would be to choose a color which is closer to your natural shade. And for those people whose gray hair is less than 50% but is noticeably visible, a strong semi-permanent hair dye would be the best.
Some women look tremendous sporting their grey hair looks, while some look older than their age. In the streets of New York City, it has been noticed that gray color which is generally referred to as white, pewter, silver etc. is the most attention grabbing hair color.
