How to color hair

In my earlier article on hair coloring advice, I have listed a few things which we must know and understand about our hair.

A number of things strike our mind whenever we think of hair coloring. Will this color suit me? How should I go about it? How will I look like? How should I choose the color?

These questions leave us in such a dilemma that we finally end up without coloring our hair, which we probably feel is the best way out. Here I have discussed a few things which should help you out of this dilemma.

1. How to choose the color?

Everyday walking down the market we see a huge range of colors available. We sometimes get confused choosing the right color and somehow end up with the wrong one. The following are certain things that need to be kept in mind while choosing the right color for your hair:

1) Do not get carried away by the color that has been shown on the picture on the pack.

2) Choose the color according to your complexion. Any color would suit people with pale complexion.

3) Do not highlight your hair if it is of short length.

4) Go for darker shades to color grey hair.

2. Things required for coloring your hair at home:

1) hair brush

2) hand gloves

3) an old t-shirt

4) A plastic container for mixing the ingredients

5) A good quality comb

3. How to color your hair?

Here, we are in the last section on how to go about it. Coloring your hair is not a difficult task if you know how to choose the right color that matches your complexion. So, here are some basic guidelines:

1) Apply Vaseline around your hairline to protect your skin from getting stained.

2) Pick up small strands of hair and apply the color.

3) Go through the allergy test on a small patch of your skin before coloring.

4) Keep a proper time check while coloring to get the desired effect on your hair.

5) If you are coloring grey hair then it might take a little longer because of its coarse texture.

6) If the coloring goes wrong, don’t panic. Seek help from professionals.

Hair coloring at home is not recommended for those who want a complete change. As it suits those people who want to cover up their grey hair or want a lighter or darker shade. If you want a complete change, then the best way is to consult a professional colorist.

However, it is advisable that with the number of hair coloring products available in the market, it is very difficult to choose the one that suits you, so it is best to consult a hair expert. There are certain pros and cons of getting your hair colored from a professional.

Some benefits of getting hair colored done from colorist are:

1) Less risk of going wrong

2) You will get the desired color effect.

3) A colorist, being an expert, knows how to fix the colors even if it goes wrong.

With the issue of hair coloring being resolved, the next question is how to make hair color last longer. We don’t usually have enough time to visit the salon frequently and sometimes hair coloring cost us a fortune that we wish if we had an alternative to maintain the color last longer.
